FAQ

Clear answers to the most common questions about self-publishing and Amazon KDP.

What is Amazon KDP and how does it work?

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is Amazon’s self-publishing platform. It allows independent authors to publish eBooks and print-on-demand paperbacks or hardcovers. There are no upfront print runs – when a reader orders your book, Amazon prints, binds and ships it directly, depositing the royalty into your bank account.

Do I keep the rights and royalties to my book?

YES: 100%. We set up your titles inside your personal Amazon KDP account. All publishing rights, intellectual property and sales royalties remain entirely yours. We charge ONLY for our formatting, design and preparation services.

Do I need to buy my own ISBN number(s)?

For Amazon paperbacks, Amazon offers a free KDP-assigned ISBN. However, if you want your own publishing imprint name to appear, or plan to sell in high-street bookshops or other platforms, we can guide you through purchasing the necessary official ISBN’s via Neilsen Book UK, and generating the barcodes for the covers.

What is the difference between an eBook and a Print interior?

Print books require fixed-page geometry, precise margins, gutters (space for the spine binding) and 300 dpi high-resolution output. eBooks normally use reflowable text that adjusts automatically to different screen sizes and user font choices (unless you have chosen for your eBook to be a ‘print replica’). We produce dedicated, validated files for the necessary formats.

Can I order physical copies for myself?

Yes. Via Amazon KDP you can order ‘Author Copies’ at cost price (the base printing cost, plus shipping) which you can sign and sell at local events or distribute to friends and family,

How do I get started?

Send us an email (preferred) or give us a call with an overview of your manuscript (word count, genre and whether you have images or cover ideas). We will review your project and provide a clear, no-obligation quote.
